IFTS (Institute of Filtration and Techniques of Separation) is an independent, not-for-profit, self-financing organization created in 1981. With 25 engineers and technicians, IFTS develops knowledge and facilities that provide innovative improvements to the Solid-Liquid Separation techniques, products and processes that are used throughout the liquid-producing and liquid-using industries.

IFTS’ expertise includes pressure, vacuum and centrifuge filtrations, as well as settling, flotation and centrifugal, cyclone and membrane separation techniques. IFTS also specializes in techniques that characterize porous media to determine the size and shape of particles.

IFTS offers cooperative services that are cooperative and non competitive:
• Scientific and technological surveys
• Fundamental and applied research on separation products and machines
• Development of new test methods
• In-depth contributions to national, European and international standards bodies

IFTS also delivers contractual activities that are private and confidential:
• Measurements filter testing (based on ISO 17025)
• Component contamination sensitivity testing
• Feasibility and technical optimization studies on separation processes
• Continuous training, expertise and consultancy
• Design, manufacture and validation of test stands
• Supply of certified reference suspensions to calibrate APCs

IFTS has developed dozens of standard filter test methods that are used worldwide and has organized several test validation round robin exercises for AFNOR, CEN and ISO.

IFTS has also developed and validated a new method to measure the water separation efficiency of diesel fuel filters for ISO and it was adopted as ISO 16332.

In addition, IFTS developed and validated new tools – to be standardized by CEN as the ECOFLOC method – that optimize the chemical conditioning of industrial and urban sewage sludge.
